1982…Do remember what happened in 1982?

Since 1982 was the last time the Brewers made it to the postseason, I thought I’d remind everyone of what happened that year.  Through some surfing, I’ve accumulated the following list of items you might find interesting:

  • Graceland opened to the public
  • EPCOT opens at Walt Disney World (On October first no less — Happy Birthday EPCOT!)
  • Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney release “Ebony and Ivory”

  • Queen Elizabeth grants Canada full political independence from the United Kingdom
  • Michael Jackson releases “Thriller”
  • E.T., Tootsie, Star Trek II, Poltergeist, Gandhi, First Blood, Conan the Barbarian, Tron, Blade Runner & Fast Times at Ridgemont High were all in the theaters
  • Knight Rider airs for the first time (funny this year they brought it back)
  • Cal Ripkin started his Iron Man streak
  • University of California executes “The Play” on a kickoff return to defeat Standford as time runs out
  • Paul Lynde, John Belushi, Randy Rhoads, Satchel PAige, Henry Fonda, Ingrid Bergman, Grace Kelly, and Bess Truman passed away
  • Prince William, Danica Patrick, Jessica Biel, Kelly Clarkson, LeAnn Rhimes, Ian Thorpe, Apolo Anton Ohno and Kirsten Dunst were born
  • Lastly, the St. Louis Cardinals defeat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-3 in game 7 to win the World Series

My God its been a long time!  The game starts today at 2:00 CDT in Philadelphia.  The wait is almost over.  The Brewers will finally play in October again!  Enjoy it Brewers fans!  You’ve hung in there, paid for a ballpark and now they’re finally in the playoffs.  Ahhhhh…that’s nice.
