…I was a mere 10 years old. Robin Yount and Paul Molitor were the reasons I got interested in the Brewers. There were plenty of other characters like Gorman Thomas, Rollie Fingers, Pete Vuckovich, Ben Oglive, and Cecil Cooper — those 2 had some awesome batting stances. But, to me the reason to go to the game was Yount and Molitor. Gantner was hard not to like with his defense at 2nd. Ever since that team lost in 7 games to the Cardinals we’ve been waiting for a return.
Well, step 1 accomplished. You need to make the playoffs to have a shot at The Series. It was a roller coaster ride and it really shouldn’t have been. They needed to can Yost with just 12 games left to spark a team into having some emotion and getting after it. They still almost didn’t make it. I thought I was watching the Mets for crying out loud.
But it’s here. The Brewers are going to be playing in October for the first time in my adult years. Cripes, I almost old enough to have a mid-life crisis and these guys have finally made it the playoffs again. I’m hoping that for the 10 year olds out there who went to the park to see Braun and Fielder, that they don’t have to wait until 2034 to see this again.
