My God! A win!

I can’t believe it!  They actually looked good.  They beat the Cubs at Wrigley and have the opportunity to actually take the series.  Michael Hunt at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinnel sums things up pretty well here.  The best part of his article is this:

The much-maligned bullpen was excellent without Sheets. A whole bunch of relatively obscure guys, including the conspicuously blatant Eric Gagne, were very, very good in shutting down an extremely dangerous offense. Sveum made all the right calls at all the right times, and the players, as players are paid to do, actually did their jobs.

The Dale Sveum experiment has at the very least put some fight back into the Brewers.  Without Sheets, with only 10 games left, and 1/2 game behind the Mets it might be too little too late.  But, I’ve watched the last 2 games now and there has definitely been an attitude adjustment for this club.  Benching Hall, Weeks and Parra sent a pretty good message I think.  Sub-standard play will not be tolerated.  These are things Yost should’ve done a long time ago.  Unfortunately, with Sheets out with yet another injury, Parra may find himself back in the rotation again.  But, at least Sveum has shown the fans if they don’t make the playoffs, it won’t be because this team didn’t put up a fight.

I wonder if Gallardo can give at least 5 innings in 2 starts before wearing out…but that might be the fastest recovery from an ACL tear of all time.
