On a night when Favre went 5-6, 48 yards and 1 TD in 14 plays, Rodgers was much less than stellar. Retired journalist, Cliff Christl, covered the Packers for almost 40 years and used to host online chats after the Packer games. He often talked about how Favre made everyone look better than they were beause of one thing in particular. How quickly he got rid of the ball. He didn’t get sacked much because he through the ball so quickly. Rodgers on the other hand, does not. People will blame the offensive line to be sure, but Rodgers cannot hold the ball as long as he does. Even this article, suggests the same thing:
Rodgers finished just 9-of-16 for 58 yards and could have been picked off twice. He was sacked four times, a byproduct of poor pass protection, poor rhythm between Rodgers and his receivers and Rodgers simply waiting too long to unload the ball.
Waiting too long to unload gets everything out of rhythm. Then everyone presses and nothing works. I said it before, and I guess I’m saying it again, Expect the sack numbers to go up with Rodgers at them helm. He may be more mobile, but Brett didn’t need the mobility as much because he didn’t hold on to the ball.
