I know, I always talk about pitching being how to win games. That’s kind of like saying defense is the way to win football games. It’s all true, but you can’t win games without scoring a few points here and there. The Brewers last game was kind of a microcosm of the Brewers since the All Star break from an offensive side of the ball. Ryan Braun and Bill Hall have been on fire. They’ve been provided late game heroics for over a week now. Braun bat for over .500 on the road trip and Hall has been doing so much better lately that his batting average for the season is almost respectable. Almost.
The Cubs have been faltering and the Brewers are on a tear. That means the 4 game home series against the Cubs that begins tomorrow could start with the Brewers all alone in first place of the Central. Worst case, they’ll enter the series 1 game behind. It all depends on how well the Crew does against the Astros today and what the Cubs do against the Marlins. In any case, it sets the stage for a critical series and a potential for plenty of drama.
Here it is Crew. You hold your destiny in your own hands. This is what you asked for. Now you’ve got it. Finish off the Stro’s and send the North sider’s back to the windy city in second place and being worried about securing the wild card rather than the division title. It’s your opportunity to state that you are the team to beat in the NL. Don’t blow it.
