Sorry, I took a much needed vacation there. In the meantime I missed a lot of sports stuff. That doesn’t usually happen in mid-July in Wisconsin. But, I’ll start with the Brewers.
The Brewers are not only relevant after the All Star break – which in and of itself is news around these parts — they are in possession of the wild card, have a .500 road record, and are 1 game out of first place in the NL Central. They have taken the 1st two games of a 4 game series in St. Louis. A place the Brewers don’t usually have much luck. And they did it thanks in large part to Bill Hall.
There’s a lot of stuff in that previous paragraph that just defies conventional wisdom. But, with a series at home against the imploding Cubs — that’s kind of redundant isn’t it — coming up, the Brewers control their own destiny. They could not only take lead of the division, but also grab the best record in the NL within a week. Plus, the Brewers have what looks like the easiest schedule of all of the contending teams. They’ve played the tough part of their schedule already. The Cubs on the other hand have to leave the Toilet Bowl…er… I mean…Wrigley and play some decent teams on the road for a change. Couldn’t happen to a nicer team.
And did I mention the Brewers have 2 of the best starters in baseball coming up to finish the series with the Cards? And they’ll both be in the rotation during the Cubs series? Ahh…its been a long time, but its finally fun to be a Brewers fan again. I can’t wait to see what August and September bring. It should be one helluva ride.
