The world’s of reality and my Brewer’s happy place (as described to you in this post) are starting to meld! It’s finally happened. The Brewer’s made a deal for Sabathia. Now, if Attanasio were to manage to re-sign Sheets or Sabathia for next year, it would be even closer. If he gets out those big oversized press-conference checks for both of them I won’t know what to do. Except maybe buy more tickets before the prices go up.
The best part of this deal is that the Brewers gave up no major league players. Melvin didn’t have to send Prince packing to get Sabathia. Instead, he gave up 4 minor leaguer’s for one of the best pitchers in the game. Even if they end up simply renting him for 3 months to get to the playoffs for the first time in more than 25 years, it’s worth it. Yes, you give up LaPorta, but he didn’t have a home in Milwaukee. Fielder is at first. The outfield is full (of All-Stars no less). He doesn’t play other infield positions. The rest of the guys they gave up are just names. Plus, they get 2 compensatory picks if Sabathia doesn’t resign giving them 3 of the top 35 picks in next years draft. If my two worlds crumble after this collsion and they don’t sign Sheets as well, 2 more picks in the top 35.
Doug Melvin worked some serious magic on this trade. Even if it doesn’t work out, it’s nice to see the Brewers buying instead of selling this time of year.
