I guess I just didn’t realize how out of hand rookie contracts were getting. I thought JaMarcus Russell’s deal last year was ridiculous. But, I rationalized it saying he was the top pick overall and those guys have always gotten way too much money. Throw in the fact that he’s a QB and that will jump up the contract too.
However, when Matt Ryan signs a deal that pays him more than Brett Favre received last year, it gets my attention. He’s never played a down, he wasn’t selected first overall, and, oh yeah, that Favre guy owns every NFL QB record worth owning. Jake Long is making more than 60% of the Packers line combined? Wow. Those contracts really are out of hand.
