Being a Dad

My daughter had here first tee ball game last Monday and we had been practicing before then and since.  It’s a leauge full of 4 and 5 year olds and all of the parents I’ve run into so far have been real good with not being too competitive.  My daughter is the only girl on her team, but she doesn’t seem too fazed by that.  And there doesn’t seem to be any dads (it’s usually the dads) living vicariously through their 5 year old.  Which makes me glad.

But, the best part has been helping my daughter learn how to hit, throw and field.  Between work and drying our basement I’ve felt like I’ve been ignoring the kids.  I’ve tried to spend time with them before they go to bed and then work on the basement.  To get my work done, I’ve gotten up earlier than usual.  The end result is that I’ve only been sleeping 4-5 hours a night while we’ve been taking care of this.  So, I’ve felt like a zombie when I have been spending time with them.  It was refreshing to have her ask for my help and too be able to provide it.  I finally felt like a dad again.  She’s really good a batting and she’s got a decent arm, but mostly it just feels great to spend some time with her.  Being a Dad is a pretty good gig after all.
