A little baseball comment

What?!?!  Baseball?  Right before the Packers play their biggest game in the last 9 years?!?!?

Yep.

Look I couldn’t let the move of Rookie of the Year Ryan Braun from 3rd to left field without at least acknowledging it.  I guess I don’t mind that Braunie is moving to left field.  Although my blog name is based on him playing third, but I think I’ll still leave it that way.  His hitting should be even better and his errors should go way down out in left field.  Billy Hall has played 3rd before and plays pretty well in the infield.  No, its the Cameron signing that has me a little worried.

First, he has to sit out the first 25 games because of a banned substance suspension.  Second, he’s 35 years old.  Third, he strikes out a lot.  He was 4th in strikeouts last year.  That’s even more than Hall.  Having both of them in the batting lineup scares me.  Plus, I think Tony Gwynn Jr. proved at the end of last year that he deserves a shot to play.  If you were going to move Hall, why impede Gwynn’s development?  Especially since he rarely strikes out.  Gwynn always puts the ball in play.  Plus, Matt LaPorta is moving through the Brewers farm system as fast as Braun did.  He was playing left field and now he’s going to be playing right.  We’ve got Corey Hart who can play center as well.  Cameron just seems to be yet another outfielder on a team that seems to always have too many outfielders.

Maybe Gwynn gets the first 25 games and Cameron is only here for a year to shore up the fielding for what should be a pennant run.  And then next year it’s Gwynn or Hart in center with Hart or LaPorta in right.  At least that’s what I hope.  Melvin has done a good job putting this team together with an excellent farm system.  It just seems like he’s reluctant to let these guys play some times.
