I was wrong about Favre

The ol’ geezer — and I say that affectionately — is even better than I thought he was.  Apparently, Brett Favre can throw interception free games without a running game, while still winning the game.  I thought for sure with the amount of passes he’s been throwing and defenses expecting the pass, that he’d get more INT’s than he has so far this year.  Favre is tied for first place in pass attempts in the league while the Packers rushing offense is ranked dead last with 57 yards per game and 30th in total attempts of 82.  Yet, the grand old man has managed 6 TD’s to 2 INT’s.

For the life of me, I couldn’t imagine why defensive coordinators didn’t blitz Favre on every play or use the nickel as their base defense until the Packers prove they can run the ball.  Then, I noticed San Diego tried that and Favre chewed them up.

The first game was not good, but the last two have been vintage Favre.  To also get another come from behind win along with tying the career TD mark is only fitting.  Packer fans will truly miss Favre when he is gone because far too many of them haven’t known the Packers before Favre.  They didn’t see games with Jim Del Gazio, David Whitehurst, Blair Kiel, et al. trying to fill Bart Starr’s shoes.  They don’t remember 1969 – 1991 and how crappy most of those teams were.  When Favre does hang ‘em up, people will finally realize how good he really was.  Apparently, he’ll be even better than I already thought he was.

BTW – Anyone notice Donald Driver’s game yesterday?  After quite literally getting his head taken off by Marlon McCree he went on for a 100 yard game and a TD.  In so doing, he became the all time receptions leader at Lambeau field.  More than Dowler, McGee, Sharpe, Lofton and Freeman.  Well done Donald, now go get an Imitrex injection for that killer headache you must have this morning.
