Packers-Giants: Better than expected

When the schedule originally came out I thought the Packers were in big trouble.  Over the last 5 years or so, they have been slow coming out of the gates.  With a schedule that started against Philly, went to New York and came back home to take on the Chargers, I thought they could easily be 0-3 going into a two week stretch with games against NFC North foes Minnesota and Chicago.  A 1-4 start for the 4th straight season seemed more than possible.

Then they came out and ground out a win against Philly.  Finally!  Brett got his win against Philly, but the rest of the team helped him do it.  Next up the Giants.  After the 1st half it looked like another win they were going to have to grind out.  A couple of plays by the special teams, a stingy defense and a near perfect Favre in the second half put the Giants away without much hand wringing at the end.  Wow, 2 games, 2 wins.  Color me unexpectedly happy!

Now to the bad news.  Justin Harrell was inactive again.  Allen Barbre, Aaron Rouse were also inactive. Randy Moss’s stats yesterday: 8 catches, 105 yards, 2 TDs. I know, those numbers are down from last week, but I wish our receivers had down weeks like that. Lastly, I know DeShawn Wynn is everyone’s favorite running back this week. He averaged 5 yards per carry, but he had 1 carry for 6 yards and another for 38. So, on his other 8 carries he gained only 6 yards. On top of that, on the 38 yard TD run, the Giants were so out of position, I think Gilbert Brown could have at least gotten 10 yards. To me, there is still no real threat of a running game. Hopefully, the rookies get better in a hurry because San Diego’s defense is not so porous. If they don’t get better, a near perfect Favre won’t be good enough.
