I hate picks like this. Why? I’ve never seen him play. I know absolutely nothing about him. Oh sure, he looked good in the highlight reel but if he didn’t look good in the highlight reel we’d have some serious problems. Then I’d really hate this pick. But how can I objectively critique the pick if I’ve never seen him play?
So, without any first hand knowledge I’m stuck with what the experts say. Most say his upside is just scary. He’s big, athletic and he can score. They also say he’s not ready to play yet. Rather than taking a guy that can play right now, and help right now, they took a project. Very surprising since most people think Larry Harris is in the hotseat as GM of this team. Also surprising since just last week the Bucks picked up the options on Villanueva and Bogut. Now they draft a 7′ forward? A guy who’s handlers did not want going to Milwaukee? Does that mean he doesn’t want to go to Milwaukee, or his agent’s don’t think they can market him as well in a Bucks uniform?
Again, I know very little about this guy. I sure hope the Bucks do. I’m just not sure what they’re trying to do. Set up a trade perhaps? Use Jianlian as a way to market Milwaukee to a market they’re currently underserving? Still scratching my head on this one.
