So, last year the Brewers were in the thick of the chase for the penant and they traveled to Kansas City only to get blown out by one of the worst teams in baseball. That was the beginning of the end last year. Kansas City comes to Milwaukee tonight for a 3 game series. Should we be worried again?
In a word, no. Why? This year’s incarnation of the Brewers is better than last year’s. On top of that, this year’s incarnation of the rest of the NL Central is worse than last year’s and the Crew holds a 7.5 game lead. One series — won or lost — with one of the worst teams in baseball is not going to end their season this year. The Brewers will be in this thing come September despite what happens against the Royals.
I know, I know, we’re Brewer fans. The team hasn’t given us anything to be optimistic about for 25 years. We have to chew our fingernails off every game. Around every corner is the inevitable let down this team has given this community every year for the past quarter century. Some year’s the let down happened in May and we awaited the start of Packers training camp. Other year’s they got our hopes up and fell apart after the All Star break. One year they managed to win 92 games and still didn’t make the playoffs. But trust me, this year is different. This is the once a generation season Brewers fans have been waiting for.
