A trip to the ol’ ballpark

Last night I enjoyed watching the Brewers end their 6 game slide from the comfy confines of Miller Park.  If you’ve never been there, you should go see a game sometime.  It doesn’t matter if you’re a Brewers fan or even a baseball fan.  I’ve been to numerous games there and have never had a bad seat.  It’s not like the old County Stadium with it’s lovely gray corrugated aluminum and bleacher seats that were hell and gone from the action.  Even the bleacher seats in Miller Park give you a feel of being right in the action.

Of course, it never hurts to feel part of the action when Prince Fielder jacks a 2 run shot that goes over head (in said bleacher seats) to tie the game up.  A 30 hit game.  It was hard not to get excited in the moment, but I must admit, 30 hits was way more than I expected.  Sheets is supposed to be the Brewers ace and the score was 3-0 Braves before I had finished making it through the line at the turnstiles.  Smoltz is a (future) hall of fame pitcher, but the end of the third inning each team had 3 runs and 7 hits.  Not the pitchers dual I was expecting.

Then it got really sloppy.  I don’t know who was keeping the stats but I counted 3 errors made by the Braves.  Lucky for the Brewers batting averages only 1 was officially awarded.  And Rickie Weeks had 2 identical errors on 2 batters in a row.  Then a couple of innings later the error count was reduced to 1 and the Braves were awarded another hit.  The box score was changing so much I thought they put a weatherman in charge of the stats for a while.

Nonetheless, all of those baserunners made the game pretty fun to watch and it came down to the tying run on 3rd for the Braves in the top of the ninth with just 1 out and Francisco Cordero struckout the last 2 batters for the save and the Brewers walked away with a 5-4 win.  My wife and I walked away after having a fun night out with friends at the ballpark and it didn’t hurt that the good guys won.
