Harlan update

Well, its not quite as juicy as Jones opinion of Thompson, but it does appear it is a difference of managing styles.  Harlan was very hands off, and Jones appears to be more abrassive and some employees that would have been affected complained to Harlan.  He mentioned it to the Executive Board and the rest is history.  I would expect Jones to fade into distance while they find someone else to replace him.

Harlan hired this guy 8 years ago, so the prevailing question is, “Why didn’t he spot these managerial differences sooner?”  Well, some people change a bit after a heart attack.  Some become more carefree, determined to live every minute to the fullest.  Others, become more regimented, determined to extend their amount of time on this rock.  My guess is the heart attack Jones suffered 11 months ago had a profound effect on his personality.  Call me a Harlan apologist, but he has a history of admitting mistakes and moving forward as soon as he recognizes them so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.  He only gave the all-powerful Sherman experiment 2.5 years before he changed that.  He dumped Braatz and brought in Wolf.  He took on the stadium issue before it was a problem.  So, I’ll go with the idea that Jones changed a little after that heart attack.
